The much-anticipated second season of the musical adult cartoon Hazbin Hotel launches on Prime Video this week, and fan speculation has been rampant.
Season 1 presents a diverse group of personalities residing in the afterlife, sets them at odds accompanied by songs about their clashes, and builds heated competitions and angsty, affectionate connections that fuel audience devotion.
The community's expectations for season 2 vary widely, but certain threads emerge over and over: Could Angel Dust escape his tormentor? Will we find out more about the binding agreement affecting the enigmatic Alastor? Will [favorite character] and [other character] finally get together?
"Obviously, I don't make the show with audience demands specifically in mind," the showrunner commented recently. "However I believe that me being a devotee of the series means there's a lot of it just inherently. I also want to see these things, and I hope some of these things to happen, and clearly some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
She says her long-term vision is for a five-season run of Hazbin Hotel. Future installments have already been green-lit by the production companies, which produce the series.
That might mean viewers have to be patient for some of the biggest payoffs — but they may be surprised at how quickly season 2 moves, and how much of what they're anticipating happens this season.
"I believe people are going to be highly satisfied," she adds. "There are several debut moments. I think we receive some really amazing disclosures, some really cool origin tales, and even just simple things, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] We're going to hear additional musical numbers from the characters we didn't get to hear before."
The creator is well-informed of the guesses and hopes about season 2 — especially in the format of audience prediction charts.
"I've seen a couple people make a prediction grid about the new season," she mentions. "Obviously I can't post it, but I've already completed a few items, and almost all of them have almost a bingo. I was like, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that makes me think we accomplish much [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I was like, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that makes me happy."
Hazbin Hotel the second season premieres on the streaming service on Oct. 29.
